First Steps - Getting Your License

All Roots officials must have a current USSF-certification through the Massachusetts State Referee Committee (MSRC) and be 14 years of age before taking to the field. The cost of the MSRC course is $115 and you will also be required to buy starter uniform/equipment approx. $60. [our minimum game fees is $25 p/game, you will recoup your costs quickly]

Getting Ready for Assignments

Once you have completed your licensing through MSRC please reach out to [email protected] and ask for an invite to Assignr - this is our scheduling platform for both the RSL and RAC. Your invite will look like this:

BUY THE BASICS

Shirts) - The uniform must be the latest USSF-approved uniform (see example below)
- Your first color should be YELLOW
- If you can afford a second color, great, if not don't worry
- If you are in the same colors as the teams; change or wear a pinnie/bib
- Shirts should be tucked in - it might not be cool but it is professional!
Shorts - Must be black, preferably have pockets (No basketball shorts).
Socks - Must be predominantly black, and must be worn up at all times.
Footwear - Should be soccer cleats or molded turf shoes, no sneakers
Watch - that counts up or down
Whistle - Find one you like, having a spare in the car doesn't hurt either
Flip Coin - This can be anything you like as long as it has two different sides
Yellow/Red Cards & Notebook/Pen - essential, don't leave your cards at home!

WHERE TO BUY

There are many places you can goto online to buy uniform and/or starter kits, the starter kits will have everything you need. Personally I like Official Sports, you can get a full starter kit for $60-70 with everything you need but there are plenty of other options; Referee Store or Capelli Sports.
